Antique Immigrant's
Trunk
Circa 1840 - 1870
This iron bound
trunk probably accompanied an immigrant with the initials "S. D. S."
on a one-way trip from somewhere in Europe to "AMERICA, CHICAGO."
The trunk has good age to it, and might have had a few years on it before
it became destined for Chicago. "S. N. S." is carved into the sides
and back. This is later, through the paint, and probably represents a descendant.
Dovetailed corners.
Wooden pinned top. Full circumference iron strapping with two hinges and two
lock hasps. Iron reinforcements on corners. Iron carrying handles. Pine. Flat
top.
39 1/2" wide,
19" deep, and 20" high
